The incidence of herpes zoster in China: A meta-analysis and evidence quality assessment
Hum Vaccin Immunother. 2023 Aug 1;19(2):2228169. doi: 10.1080/21645515.2023.2228169. Epub 2023 Jul 9.ABSTRACTThis review aimed to estimate the disease burden of herpes zoster (HZ) in China and explore the application of the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach in studies of disease burden. We searched for the literature of observational studies analyzing HZ incidence in populations of all ages in China. Meta-analysis models were constructed to calculate the pooled incidence of HZ and pooled risks of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), HZ recurrence, and hospitalization. Subgroup anal...

A study on knowledge, attitude, and vaccination behavior of herpes zoster vaccine among urban residents in selected areas of China
Conclusion: Low knowledge of herpes zoster and its vaccine, positive attitudes towards the preventive effects of herpes zoster and its vaccine, and extremely low vaccination rates among the urban population in China call for multiple measures to strengthen health education and vaccination recommendations for residents, especially for the elderly, low-education and low-income populations.PMID:37380410 | DOI:10.3760/cma.j.cn112338-20221125-00998

Safety and immunogenicity of a skin- and neuro-attenuated live vaccine for varicella: a randomized, double-blind, controlled, dose-escalation and age de-escalation phase 1 clinical trial
Lancet Reg Health West Pac. 2023 Feb 18;34:100707. doi: 10.1016/j.lanwpc.2023.100707. eCollection 2023 May.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Despite the success in decreasing varicella-related disease burden, live-attenuated Oka vaccine strain of varicella-zoster virus (vOka) remains neuro-virulence and may establish latency and reactivate, raising safety concerns. Here we aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a skin- and neuro-attenuated varicella vaccine candidate (v7D).METHODS: This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-escalation and age de-escalation phase 1 clinical trial conducted in Liuzhou, China ...

Factors influencing herpes zoster vaccination among older people in China: results from a discrete choice experiment
CONCLUSIONS: Improving medical insurance coverage or reducing the cost of the HZ vaccine will encourage more people to be vaccinated, resulting in reduced burden of disease among older people.PMID:37263175 | DOI:10.1016/j.puhe.2023.04.025

Cost-effectiveness of recombinant zoster vaccine for adults aged ≥50 years in China
CONCLUSIONS: RZV was most likely to be cost-effective in people aged 60-69 years. A slight decrease in vaccine cost would result in RZV being cost-effective in all people aged ≥50 years.PMID:37182556 | DOI:10.1016/j.amepre.2023.05.007

Lifetime risk of herpes zoster in the population of Beijing, China
CONCLUSIONS: Given an aging population, HZ poses a significant, growing burden on individuals, the society, and healthcare system of China, highlighting the need for preventative measures such as vaccination.PMID:36968763 | PMC:PMC10031117 | DOI:10.1016/j.puhip.2023.100356

Willingness to Vaccinate Against Herpes Zoster and Its Associated Factors Across WHO Regions: Global Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Only 1 in 2 individuals showed a willingness to be vaccinated against HZ. The willingness rate was the highest in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Our findings show the critical role HCWs play in promoting HZ vaccination. Monitoring HZ vaccination willingness is necessary to inform public health decision-making. These findings provide critical insights for designing future life-course immunization programs.PMID:36892937 | DOI:10.2196/43893

Concomitant Severe Psoriasis and Bullous Pemphigoid Induced by COVID-19
Trop Med Infect Dis. 2023 Feb 8;8(2):107. doi: 10.3390/tropicalmed8020107.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), first isolated in Wuhan, China, is currently a pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, pulmonary issues were the most discussed and studied. However, now 3 years later, the role of the dermatologist has become increasingly central. Often the diversity in the presentation of these manifestations has made it difficult for the dermatologist to recognize them. In addition to the common symptoms involving fever, cough, dyspnea, and hypo...

Truncated glycoprotein E of varicella-zoster virus is an ideal immunogen for Escherichia coli-based vaccine design
In conclusion, this method of E. coli-mediate tgE expression offers a cost-effective and scalable strategy to generate an ideal VZV gE immunogen for the development of both varicella and zoster vaccines.PMID:36790656 | DOI:10.1007/s11427-022-2264-1

Cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination
J Dermatol. 2023 Jan 13. doi: 10.1111/1346-8138.16651. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn December 2019, a new infectious pathogen named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was identified in Wuhan, China. Transmitted through respiratory droplets, SARS-CoV-2 is the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although this new COVID-19 infection is known to cause primarily interstitial pneumonia and respiratory failure, it is often associated with cutaneous manifestations as well. These manifestations with COVID-19 can be classified into seven categories: (i) chilblain-like skin eruption...
